Sanibel Island is one of the best known of the many barrier islands of Lee County, Florida. Sanibel, which is known worldwide for its magnificent shelling, is connected to the mainland by a three-mile-long causeway. More than 200 varieties of shells can be found on Sanibel's beaches, especially after extremely high or low tides. |

Great shops, galleries, restaurants and boutiques line Sanibel's streets, and the J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge is called home by many exotic species of birds and plants. Just to the north of Sanibel, on the other side of the bridge at Blind Pass, is the island of Captiva. Sanibel is one of the most beautiful vacation spots you'll find in the Sunshine State. |
